As the name suggests, a Chat Team Leader is in charge of a group of live chat agents. This role can be done remotely, as with any other live chat work. In some companies, the position may be called Supervisor, Shift Leader, or something similar.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing the team and keeping everything running smoothly. The details vary from organization to organization, but a typical Team Leader role will include:

Whew! There’s a lot to do. But most of these tasks are not difficult. You just need to be well-organized and prepared to dig in and get the job done. 

As you will have live chat experience under your belt already, you will be familiar with the chat software and how everything works. You just need to add a few new skills to your belt, such as dealing with more senior managers. 

A Team Leader role is a desirable one, but how do you get promoted into this position? The simple answer is that you work your way up the ladder.

Getting a job as an entry-level agent will help you acquire the industry experience you need initially. Be ready to learn as much as you can, and study how your own Team Leader operates. This will stand you in good stead later on.

Next, move up to an Intermediate role, such as Subject Matter Expert. This may give you opportunities to stand in as Acting Team Leader when your boss is away. You will get thrown in the deep end, but you will have a chance to learn fast. This experience will be a tremendous asset when it comes to applying for a Team Leader position.
