Lesson 2: Top Team Technology

Remote working wouldn't be possible without the Internet and all the fantastic software tools we have at our disposal today. So it's a good idea to familiarize yourself with the tech you are likely to be using in your live chat role.

While every company has its own technology setup, some standard tools are used by a high percentage of organizations. Here's a quick rundown of the apps you are most likely to encounter during your working life.

Live Chat Software

The core technology you will use every day will most likely be your company's live chat software. You will use this to connect to website visitors and manage your chats. There are many systems on the market, but they all work similarly. You are sure to get special training on how to use this software.

Sometimes, this is the only tool you will need to do your job. However, in other organizations, you will combine this with other specialized applications.

Collaboration

Cloud computing has made collaboration much easier. For example, if your organization uses many documents, you may be asked to use Google Drive, Microsoft Office 365, or a similar collaboration platform. Here you will be able to share and discuss documents, spreadsheets, and presentations.

Video Conferencing

Thanks to recent social changes, most of us have become familiar with using video conferencing applications such as Zoom to hold virtual meetings. Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are also very popular. These are great for staying in touch, no matter where you are in the world.

Project Management

Project Management tools help to keep teams on track towards getting work done. There are many different tools available, but the most popular ones include Asana and Monday.com. You may be assigned tasks by your supervisor, which you then need to complete in the given time.

Time Tracking

When you are working remotely, it's essential to log your working hours. Many organizations use special time-tracking software to do this. Apps such as Time Doctor and Clockify make it easy to record your working hours and get paid for all your good work.

Employee Scheduling

As a member of a remote team, you may be working various shifts at different times. Employee Scheduling software such as When I Work tells you when you should be working and helps you swap shifts or make other changes as required.
